PARTICIPATION

This class combines discussion, writing (in-class & out), and hands-on creativity in a bi-weekly seminar/workshop format. Attendance and participation are a key part of the class. Your presence & engagement shapes the class experience and greatly contributes to your and your classmate’s learning and our collective creative process. Please come to class having done the readings, ready to engage and participate. Participation in this class means both speaking and active listening, as well as providing peers with thoughtful feedback on their work and ideas. I do not have a strict technology-use policy for during class time, but please be mindful of staying present and engaged with the class and your classmates.

MISSED CLASS

We will not have an ongoing zoom option; if you need to miss more than two classes because of health or personal issues, please reach out to both your dean and to me to make arrangements. When you miss class, please connect with a classmate to get their notes/find out what you missed. I’m also happy to meet with you during my office hours.

LATE WORK

Late work will be marked down by half a grade a week. You will always get at least half credit, no matter how late you turn something in. I always think its better to engage in the work, even if late, than not at all, but at the same time, I don’t want you to get bogged down with late work.

LEARNING SUPPORT

I want to hear about your learning needs and preferences, so that I can make sure you have what you need. If you have a learning difference or concern of any kind that might impact your participation in this class, please communicate with me as soon as possible.

Students who have Letters of Accommodation: I encourage you to contact me as early in the semester as possible to ensure that we can implement those accommodations from the start  For those without Letters of Accommodation, assistance is available to eligible students through the Disability Resource Center (DRC).   Please contact ADA Coordinators Jodi Litchfield, Peter Ploegman, and Deirdre Kelly of the DRC at [email protected] for more information.  All discussions will remain confidential.

SCREENINGS

Each week we will have a relevant screening -- sometimes a documentary, sometimes a web series, sometimes a selection of MVs and other content (official or fan-created). Sometimes you will be curating these screenings yourselves. These screenings will generally be 1-2 hours long.

We will meet in person for these screenings in Axinn 232 on Mondays at 7.30. Please be on time for these screenings; I’ll set them up with some questions to keep in mind as we watch, and we might have a small discussion before we watch. It’s fine to bring food to the screenings, but please clean up when you leave so our doing so doesn’t become an issue.
