For this class, you’ll need hard drives to use when editing, and to store media files on. I strongly encourage you to use a dedicated drive, even if your current personal drive meets the specs: video files take up room quickly, and worrying about space always puts a damper on creativity.
One reason for buying your own hard drive from the outset is that you’ll have to return your borrowed hard drive by mail at the end of the semester, and often when students are faced with what to do with all their media files, they end up buying a hard drive at the last minute and transferring all their media over in a rush. So if you can, it is simplest to buy a hard drive for class use.
We encourage you to buy your own hard drive if possible, but if you’re not able to do so, we do have departmental hard drives to lend out to support anyone who needs them.
