Canvas

We’ll be using Canvas for text-based discussion, for group work, and for assignment submission. We will have a tech and creative help discussion board and various chat threads on Canvas as well

Adobe Premiere and Davinci Resolve

We’ll be using Adobe Premiere and/or Davinci Resolve for editing assignments throughout the class. Middlebury has a free license for Premiere for educational use, and is the standard software we use in other FMMC classes. DaVinci Resolve is a free but powerful editing tool that is considered by many the new gold standard, especially when it comes to color and special effects.

Hard Drives:

You will be able to check out a hard drive from FMMC; we will discuss this during class time. You will need to use this hard drive as video files can be quite big and you don’t want to be storing them always on your personal computer. You will need to make an account at go/cheqroom to check out the hard drive.

4K Video Downloader +:

This is a useful but optional tool for downloading YouTube videos. The free version should suffice for this class.

Youtube

We'll primarily be using YouTube as our video sharing site in this class. Even if you have a YouTube account, I strongly encourage you to create a new and dedicated YouTube account for this class, and to create a pseudonym for it rather than use your real name. I'll ask for you to submit your YouTube account names so I know who you are!

I encourage you as a default to post your videos as Unlisted. If you want to enter the YouTube conversation by posting your videos publicly, that’s okay, but please do so as a conscious decision that you’ve thought through and talked over first.

If your video gets blocked on YouTube for copyright issues we can a) use this as an opportunity to think through how YouTube policies can run into conflict with Fair Use and b) share the videos with the class via google drive.

Share Your Work

Consider sharing your work on the departmental playlists!
